Four Great Midtown Manhattan Lunch Places On A Budget

Manhattan is considered to be one of the most expensive places to live. That doesn't mean you have to spend a fortune on good food though. Manhattan does have some high-end expensive restaurants, but because of how diverse it is, you can find great food for an even better price. Here are four suggestions for having a budget friendly and delicious lunch.

Mee Noodles (795 9th Ave)

Mee's is not one of those places that are well known, or mainstream. In fact, they are still in business because a small group of dedicated customers come back for their Cantonese noodle fix regularly. With a selection of hand pulled noodles, and proteins ranging from Tofu to Duck you'll find the dish that hits the spot. They have a nice but relatively small dining area.

My usual order is their duck noodle soup with thin hand pulled noodles and a coke. All together it's less than $12 dollars. On days, I feel for a big meal or I'm going with someone else, I add some scallion pancakes and shrimp siu mai all for an additional $10.50.

Their food also makes great takeaway to eat in the office. Which is good since their portion sizes are very generous and if you're having a noodle soup or their ribs you may not finish it in one sitting. You can check out their menu here.

Joe's Pizza (1435 Broadway)

Joe's is an institution in New York. There are Joe's all across the city. Across all their locations, they serve great pizza, but be warned - Joe's is real New York pizza, so there aren't any gimmicks or fancy toppings. It's bread, sauce, and cheese done to perfection. They have some extra toppings if you're in the mood for peppers, pepperoni, or anything else you can think of for a classic New York pizza.

You can order an entire pie for $21.00 but you can grab a couple slices for a few bucks, with a drink. They serve not only local sodas but a selection of imported soda, so you can have soda with sugar cane instead of high fructose corn syrup for an extra dollar. You can see their menu online here

Chirping Chicken (587 9th Ave)

A nice place to go sit down, or order food, for a neater experience is Chirping Chicken. Their portions are a nice size and their food tends to be healthy. They're also a nice place to go have a meal with co-workers or a team as they have an outdoor seating area.

Something that makes Chirping Chicken a great pick is that it has a variety of options for food, not only chicken. In fact, it's highly recommended you try their delicious baby back ribs which are only $9.45. Here’s a look at the menu for their 9th Ave. location.

Street Food, When You’re On-The-Go

New York has some of the best street food in the world. It may not be the most elegant food but you can't go wrong with a good hot dog or gyro. Also, vendors make the best people to talk to in the city and there is nothing quite like having a vendor who knows your name.

Eating out every day can be costly but these restaurants are sure to fill you up without hurting your wallet.
