DIY for all part 1 - How to hang a picture
As a budding entrepreneur, your office design and ambiance may mean the difference between limited ideas and free-flowing creativity. While plain, bright, and warm-colored walls maximize natural light, you need to spruce them up a bit to keep your creative juices flowing. Besides, you didn't escape the cubicle nation only to land on "cubicle island."
One effective way to brighten and refine your office space is by hanging a beautiful art piece (print, photo, or wall art) on it; something to give your eyes a deserved break whenever you take them off-screen.
Follow these quick and simple DIY steps and learn how to hang a picture on your office wall.
Step 1: Pick a Safe and Convenient Location
Where you place your piece of art on the wall depends on your target audience. For example, if you're mostly in the office alone, consider hanging your picture, so your eyes can easily glance at it. However, if your business is the kind that invites lots of walk-in clients, you should hang it at a strategic location where they can easily see it.
Apart from its targeted audience, the picture should also be in a safe place where it won't fall off easily and hurt someone.
Step 2: Know the Type of Wall Surface You're Working With
The type of wall you have is crucial to how you hang your picture. Some wall materials make it difficult to hammer a nail into them without substantial damage. For example, if you have a plastered wall, it's best to drive in a screw to support the picture. On the other hand, a brick wall provides you with multiple options for hanging a picture, no matter the size.
Step 3: The Hands-On Part
Once you've considered all the relevant factors, now you can hang the picture. One rule of thumb is to hang it at the average eye level, which is 57 inches above the floor, although you can defy this rule considering the subjective nature of art.
Sometimes the space you're working with isn't as much as the plain canvas that an art gallery has; in that case, just choose what works best to your liking.
Once you've drilled a screw or hammered a nail into your wall, you'll need a picture frame with two D-Rings and a hanging wire. Most frames come ready with these items. If yours didn't, you can get them at your local supplies store or online.
Behind your picture frame, you'll find two D-Rings on opposing sides, each screwed in on the top 1/3rd of the frame's height. After locating the rings, loop in the wire at both ends and twist the ends to secure them in place.
Now hang the wire to the nail on the wall and then use an eye-level phone app to balance the picture perfectly on the wall. So there you have it, all ready for deep gazing and deciphering.
