8 Great Winter Drinks to Try This Year

Whether you're hosting the family holiday party this year or in charge of drinks for the company party or even just want something to sip on while you curl up on the couch, everyone could use a good holiday drink this time of year. If you're looking for something new to try out or simply want a reminder of a recipe you've enjoyed in the past, we've got you covered.

Poinsettia Champagne Cocktail

Made with only three ingredients, the poinsettia Champagne cocktail is simple but elegant. It originally includes orange liqueur, cranberry juice, and Champagne, but you can swap out the cranberry juice for pomegranate if that is more to your liking. You can also add more or less Champagne, or omit it completely if you don't like the taste. No matter what you change, the elegance stays the same.

Holiday Punch

Another simple recipe that can be adapted based on your alcoholic preferences. The recipe itself doesn't call for any, but no one would blame you if you wanted to add a little something extra to it. Made with pineapple juice, cranberry juice, orange juice, and lemon-lime soda, it's a mixture of tangy and sweet that you can add cranberries and orange slices to to make it all the prettier sitting on the table.

Mulled Cider

A slightly more involved recipe, the quickest way to make this takes an hour, so it is something you need to prepare a little in advance if you want to enjoy it. But with spices like nutmeg, allspice, cloves, star anise and cinnamon mixed with apple cider, it not only tastes great, it also makes your home smell amazing while you make it.

Apple Cider Sangria

This drink needs to be chilled in the fridge for a minimum of an hour before being served, so you will also need to plan ahead with this one. But putting it together is easy enough at least. Simply mix your pinot grigio, fresh apple cider, club soda, ginger brandy, and chopped apples and pears together and then just throw it in the fridge.

Hot Buttered Rum

A little work goes into this drink, but it's easy and delicious enough that pulling out the hand mixer doesn't seem like too much trouble at all. Made with brown sugar, butter, honey, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and, of course, rum, it's a sweet holiday drink that is sure to please many this year.

Kir Royale

Made with just two ingredients—three if you want to add fresh raspberries—the kir royale isn't a sweet drink by any means. What it lacks in sweetness it makes up for in its simplicity and elegance, though. It is made with Crème de Cassis and dry sparkling wine.

French 77

Another simple one, the French 77 requires just elderflower liqueur, lemon juice, and some kind of sparkling wine. It's floral and elegant, and the lemon juice takes down the sweetness of the elderflower liqueur just enough to where it's not overwhelming.

Winter Snowflake Cocktail

A sweet drink that can be changed to your liking with many substitutions. The basic recipe calls for white chocolate chips, caramel sauce, vanilla extract, milk, and Baileys Irish Cream. Fear not, though, because changing the recipe won't change the holiday magic you feel when you drink this.

No matter what you choose to drink this holiday season or how to choose to drink it, hopefully you will enjoy one of these popular holiday drinks just as much as we do!
