According to The Art Newspaper, NYC accounts for over 2.2 million visitors to its most prominent museums. As we take on 2022, these museums are opening their doors to the public again.
As a small business owner, grabbing a spot in the business districts will help grow the business. Here are upcoming NYC art exhibits that'll bring in potential clients.
1. Whitney Biennial: Quiet as it's Kept
Opening its doors from April 6 till September 5, the 2022 Whitney Biennial is coming to the Whitney Museum. After a year's delay, it's one of the most anticipated exhibitions in the city.
Over 63 collectives and artists have made it to the exhibition's list, so expect a beehive of activity. This event also marks its 80th anniversary.
2. Jean-Michel Basquiat: King Pleasure
This event opens its doors to the public on April 9 at the Lehigh building. The Basquiat family has organized the event in celebration of the artist.
It features over 200 unseen artifacts, drawings, and other aspects of his famous works. Tickets are already sold, so you can expect significant traffic into the city.
3. Lou Reed: Caught Between The Twisted Stars
The event opens its doors on June 9 and lasts throughout the year until March 4, 2023. According to its organizers, Jason Stern and Don Fleming, the event will happen at the New York Library and mark Lou Reed's 80th birthday.
It features unseen work from the artist's archive alongside a massive line of artists and poets. The blurb 'caught between the stars' comes from "Romeo Had Juliette," a song on the artist's 1988 album New York.
4. "Rafael Lozano-Hemmer's an Hourglass's Crack"
This event opened its doors on October 29, 2021, and runs until June 26, 2022. What a way to remember the COVID 19 victims other than putting up portraits and tribute messages.
The images get drawn using hourglass sand, which fades away to create the next picture. This event is taking place at the Brooklyn Museum.
5. Healing Practices: Stories From Himalayan Americans
The event goes public from March 18, 2022, through January 16, 2023, at the Rubin Art Museum. It showcases the Tibetan Buddhism healing culture on spiritual, mental, and physical well-being.
